Our medical professionals are currently on the front lines to keep our communities healthy. The toll of the pandemic with the increasing responsibilities as a frontline professional is taking on the mental health of these individuals and their families is yet to be fully realized. We recognize that this is a resilient community. So in response, business leaders and mental health agencies have come together behind the scenes to build a foundation of support for these heroes. Mental Health for Heroes is an initiative designed to rally support behind the medical community by bringing together mental health resources throughout Texas and putting them at the fingertips of our medical professionals. Response will be provided in the following ways:
Immediate Crisis Interventions: Medical professionals in need can visit www.mentalhealthforheroes.org to sign up and speak to a mental health professional for a Crisis Intervention call done over HIPAA-compliant telehealth platforms. These responses will be provided by therapists trained in the medical culture and will include the following: identification of crisis situation, identification of personal resources to address crisis situation, a 360 scan of overall current wellness and stress management strategies, development of a plan going forward, and follow-up with resources available to address challenges.

Subsequent Recover Phase: For some individuals, crisis intervention will be enough to regain control. For other situations, therapeutic intervention may be required. Mental Health for Heroes will establish contracts with community mental health agencies to provide telehealth counseling sessions to medical providers. The goal is to be able to provide these services to our medical heroes at minimal cost or completely free.
Long-term Sustainability of Support: the community we are building to support the mental health of our heroes will remain in place well after we beat the pandemic so that our frontline community has the education and tools necessary to develop positive post-traumatic growth.

Education: Sometimes the helpers in our community struggle to reach out for help because of the stigma attached to mental health. We know that every time we are able to provide psychoeducation about the long term impact of chronic and critical stressors we are able to make reaching out for help less scary. Education is the avenue for people to get the help they need.
A donation dedicated to education will provide organizational education training to our frontline workers!
